Private Consultant Led Referrals

Swift, consultant led referrals for scans, tests and private specialists

At Dr. S. T. Medical and Aesthetics Clinic (Birmingham), we can arrange private referral letters and investigations quickly and clearly—whether you need to see a specific consultant, access imaging (MRI/CT/ultrasound), organise blood tests, or obtain a second opinion. Our GP will provide careful assessment and will only recommend referrals when clinically appropriate.

Not an emergency. If you have severe symptoms such as chest pain, severe breathlessness, facial droop/weakness, heavy bleeding, or sudden severe headache, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent sameday advice, contact NHS 111.

What we can refer for

✅ Specialist consultants (e.g., cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, ENT, gynaecology, urology, endocrinology, rheumatology, neurology, general surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics)
✅ Orthopaedic knee & hip—consultant led service with over 20 years’ NHS experience; assessment plus options including PRP and steroid knee injections where appropriate
✅ Menopause & HRT—complex case advice, sharedcare plans, onward gynaecology/endocrine referral if needed
✅ Diagnostics & imaging—MRI, CT, ultrasound, Xray, echocardiogram, ECG, ambulatory BP/ECG, lung function tests
✅ Laboratory tests—comprehensive blood panels and targeted tests with clear interpretation
✅ Second opinions and onward referrals following NHS or private results
If you already have a preferred specialist or hospital, let us know—we’re happy to address the referral accordingly.

When is a referral needed?

You may need a referral letter when:

✅ A hospital or consultant requires GP referral before accepting appointments
✅ Your health insurer asks for a GP letter to authorise treatment
✅ You want GP review to confirm the most appropriate specialty or test
✅ You need a fit note or clinical summary to support occupational health or travel
✅ Some services allow self referral; we’ll advise when a GP letter isn’t necessary.

How it works

✅ Book a GP consultation (in clinic or remote). We’ll take a full history, review any available previous letters/tests and examine you if needed.
✅ Clinical decision & options. We’ll discuss benefits, risks and alternatives, including NHS pathways.
✅ Referral letter issued. We prepare a detailed letter, include relevant history, medicines, allergies, and attach results. With your consent we can share with your NHS GP for continuity of care.
✅ Booking support. We can help you schedule the appointment or investigations and advise about fees and insurer requirements.
✅ Follow-up. We arrange a results review and plan next steps.

Typical turnaround: referral letters are usually completed within 1–2 working days after your consultation. Same day letters may be possible for straightforward cases.

Where we refer

We work with a range of reputable private hospitals and diagnostic centres in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, as well as national providers for specialist services. If you have a preferred location, tell us and we’ll direct the referral accordingly.
